Teach morals, gospel singers urged

By Bamidele Kolawole

Leaders in gospel music across the country have been admonished to be above board and live exemplary life capable of teaching morals in the society.
To achieve this, they must be selfless in all their dealings and be ready at all times to correct the ills of the society through deliberate sacrifice devoid of unhealthy politicking.
This position was canvassed at the inauguration of the five-man Ondo state chapter’s electoral committee of the Gospel Musicians’ Association of Nigeria (GOMAN), by the State Governor, Rev’d David Akinadewo, in Akure.
Akinadewo, popularly known as Aremolekun, while inaugurating the committee, appealed to them not to succumb to any pressure from whatever quarters, but be faithful to God and the association’s constitution.
Advising them to be loyal only to the course of GOMAN, the state Governor urged them to set rules of the forthcoming 2020 election of the association with the fear of God without dancing to the tune of any godfather.
His words: “I am appealing to you today that you must do everything permissible by the GOMAN constitution to ensure that the future of this association is not sacrificed on the altar of nepotism and cowardice. This is an opportunity for you to prove to the membership that you are a loyal, dependable and trustworthy men and women.
“Please note that your duty is not to please me, neither is it to assuage the feelings of a group of people, but solely for the betterment of the association and for posterity sake”.
Akinadewo ordered the committee to follow the Constitution of GOMAN to the latter, particularly sections that dwell on requirements for contestants, members that are eligible to vote and the number of delegates from each zone in the state.
He urged them to ensure that the election is devoid of rancour and problems, noting that it is part of the responsibility of the committee to settle all misunderstandings that might occur in the course of the electioneering campaigns.
In his response after the inauguration, Chairman of the committee, Evang. Abiola Salami, appreciated God, the State Executive and the Governor, Rev’d. Akinadewo for the privilege given him and other committee members to serve.
He assured the Governor and others present that the electoral committee would not fail the Association.
He promised that the committee would play the game according to the rules.
His words: “We will do everything in strict compliance with the GOMAN Constitution, because we are conscious of the fact that we are still going to account for our deeds here on earth to our creator.
“I want to use this medium to also appeal to our members to please cooperate with us, so that the assignment can be easier for us to execute. We don’t want anybody to start calling us unnecessarily”
While speaking with Friday Extravaganza, the GOMAN State Secretary, Evangelist Sunday Akintomi, urged the committee members to discharge their duties as expected of them, just as he appealed to members of the association to comport themselves before, during and after the election.
He said it was important for all to follow the directives and guidelines to be issued soon by the electoral committee, saying no one should take the election as a do -or -die affair.
Other members of the committee are; Evang. Funmilayo Olaoye (Secretary), Pastor Yomi Alex, Evang. Oluwaronbi Modupe and Evang. Akinpeloye Adetola.
