Teacher faces trial for defiling pupil

For allegedly defiling a five year old pupil (names withheld) a school teacher, Ebenezer Adeyeye is facing trial before an Akure High Court.
Adeyeye was charged on a two- count charge of defilement and unlawful indecent assault.
The accused was alleged to have forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl on November 7, 2018 in the school’s toilet, while she went to urinate.
He was also alleged to have threatened her when he reportedly committed the act.
According to the prosecution, the parents of the girl who discovered her bleeding had taken her to the hospital for medical examination, after which they reported him at the police station in Okitipupa.
The police in Okitipupa, thereafter took his statement, in which he was said to have confessed to the crime.
However, the accused person pleaded not guilty to the two- count charge preferred against him when it was read to him at the onset of the trial.
The prosecution told the court that all his witnesses were at the court and ready to testify in the case.
However, the case slated for hearing was stalled, due to the absence of the defense counsel in court.
The parents of the victim who came along with her to the court and were to testify in the case could not as a result of the adjournment.
Due to the absence of the defence counsel, the trial judge, Justice Samuel Bola, adjourned the case till April 8, 2019 for hearing.
