Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT, Ondo State chapter, Comrade Victor Amoko has said that the law that approved the new salary scale and elongation of service year for teachers can not be domesticated until the enabling circular is out.
Amoko who said this during an interview with The Hope, stressed that the Union is waiting for the circular to be released from the Office of the Head of the Service of the Federation.
While expressing optimism that the state will key in immediately the paper is out, Amoko stated that there is no cause for any agitation over the issue.
“It has gone through the necessary process and it has become a law and I am sure Ondo State Government will key in immediately the enabling circular is out. Once it happened to lecturers at the universities, no other agitation.
“I was in a workshop with the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Pastor Femi Agagu, the SUBEB Chairman, Hon Victor Olabimtan and the TESCOM Chairman and they assured me that the state will key in”, he said.
Amoko who said that the people are the representatives of the State Governor as far as education issues are concerned, disclosed that they even signed a communique to back it up.
Speaking on the request for medical fitness report from beneficiaries, Amoko said teaching profession requires standing and talking which he said were energy sapping adding that whoever will do it must be fit.
He said that the request should not be seen as a ploy to drop some beneficiaries.
“We have heard some teachers who said we cannot do it, we are too old, I want them to know that is voluntary and not compulsory. If you think you are too old, don’t apply for it and if you want to key in as a teacher, get your medical report and let the doctor write his licence number on it”, he explained.
President Mohamadu Buhari had last year approved a new salary scale for teachers and had approved 65 years and 40 years of service years for teachers in the country.
