The General Manager of Ondo State Sports Council, Mr Sunday Fagite, has expressed optimism that the state’s contingent to the National Youth Games (NYG) South West zonal elimination will triumph.
Fagite, in a chat with Sporting Hope, disclosed that Ondo State will compete in five events at the South West zonal elimination, which kicks off tomorrow in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
According to him, “We are currently on the field participating in the screening of athletes, and I’m very sure we will not have issues with the screening, because we have always followed the rules of the games by coming for the elimination with U-15 athletes.”
“We have prepared very well for the South West elimination, and at the end of the exercise, Ondo State will do well.”
The South West Zonal Elimination Playoffs, which run from 29 to 31 August, will feature athletes from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, and the host state, Osun, competing in various sports, including football, basketball, handball, volleyball, hockey, baseball/softball, beach volleyball, and rugby, among others.
Team Ondo will compete in only five events, which include: hockey (male), volleyball (female), handball (female), beach volleyball (mixed), and basketball (mixed).
The National Youth Games proper will be hosted in Asaba, Delta State, from 10 to 20 September this year.
