Team Ondo grabs Hockey, Beach Volleyball qualifications at NYG South West zonal elimination

After three days intensive competition at the South West zonal elimination in Oshogbo, the capital of Osun state, Team Ondo has qualified to fly the flag of Ondo State in Hockey and Beach Volleyball at the 8th National Youth Games slated for Delta State next month.
Ondo State had competed in five games, which include; Hockey, Volleyball, Handball, Basketball and Beach Volleyball against other South West states at the just concluded zonal elimination for the National Youth Games proper in Asaba.
Ondo had defeated Ekiti 4-0 in the final to pick the lone slot in Hockey while they lost 1-2 to Ekiti in Beach Volleyball.
The State male Beach volleyball had earlier defeated their counterpart from Osun and Ogun State (2 :1 , 2 : 0) respectively and beat Lagos State at semi final (2 : 0) to qualify for final slot at peak of the game, while the female team
lost to Oyo State at semi final.
The male Basketball also lost to Lagos State team with alone goal (9 – 10)
The General Manager of the Ondo State Sports Council, Mr Sunday Fagite commended the athletes and their coaches for their efforts at the South West zonal elimination, saying the outcome was the testimony of their hard work.
Fagite added that Team Ondo will come back home to continue their preparation for the main competition in Asaba next month.
He said: “Thank God we did not come home empty handed, we will intensify our training to ensure we have a great outing at the National Youth Games in Asaba”, Fagite said.
