Teenager bags 18-month in jail for stealing cables

An Akure Magistrates’ Court, has sentenced a teenager, to 18 months imprisonment for stealing electric cables in a church.

The  Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, gave the ruling after Bello pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of burglary and stealing brought against him by the men of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps.

Oyetola was convicted and sentenced to a total of 18 months imprisonment with the option of a N20,000 fine on each count.

Sekoni held that, “on count one, the defendant is convicted and sentenced to one year imprisonment and six months on count two with an option of N20,000 fine on each count.”

Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, N.J. Osiele had told the court that the convict committed the offence on March 3, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Alive Mega Parish, Powerline, Ijoka, Akure, Akure South Local Government area.

Osiele said the convict broke into the church and stole a cable wire valued at N100,000 belonging to one Samuel Bolaji.

The offences, according to the charge contravened Sections 415 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Law of Ondo State, 2006.

With the guilty plea of the defendant, the prosecutor urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

The Magistrate, however, after reviewing the facts of the case convicted him on the charges and sentenced him.

Magistrate Sekoni said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others intending to commit  crime.
