Teenager bags community service for stealing generator

By Oluwadamilola Akinduro

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court has sentenced an 18-year-old, Sunday Peter, to two weeks of community service after he was found guilty of stealing an Elepac medium generator.

Peter, who resides in Owode, Akure, was convicted on Tuesday by Magistrate O.T. Lebi, following evidence presented by the prosecution.

The court heard that Peter stole the generator, valued at N160,000, from Mr. Kehinde Nathaniel’s property in Akure and was apprehended by a community security guard while attempting to flee.

According to Police Prosecutor Augustine Omhenimhen, the offence took place on November 3, 2024, around noon.

Peter had unlawfully entered Nathaniel’s compound and stolen the generator.

He was quickly pursued and detained by the community security guard, who then handed him over to the police.

The charge indicated that Peter’s actions contravened Sections 383 and 390(9) of the Ondo State Criminal Code Law, 2006, which address theft and related offences.

Taking into account Peter’s guilty plea, Magistrate Lebi sentenced him to community service, warning him to avoid criminal activities in the future.

The service is to be conducted in a public area, under the supervision of the Olokuta Correctional Centre, for four to six hours daily.

The generator has been returned to its rightful owner, Mr. Nathaniel
