Teenager docked over alleged N3.7m theft

A 19-year-old boy, Marvellous Adebayo, has been dragged before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for allegedly stealing the sum of N3, 719,457, belonging to one Adeyemi Adeniyi, who owns Prema Filling station in the town.

The police arraigned the boy  before the court  on Tuesday on two counts bothering on conspiracy and stealing  the sum, when he was the manager of Prema filling station.

He was said to have committed the offence in August, 2017, contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37,  Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The police prosecutor, Mr Gbenga Akinsulure, who told the court that he would be calling four witnesses to testify in the case, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Bade Awosule, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal terms.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs Odenusi Fadeyi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said one of the sureties must be a civil servant, of not less than grade level 15 in the  Ondo State Civil Service, while the other surety must attach evidence of payment of tax for the year 2017 and 2018 respectively.

The sureties, she added, must be resident within the jurisdiction, and whose residency must be confirmed by the court’s orderly and reported back to court.

The sureties and the defendant were directed to attach their passport photographs.

The case was adjourned till  November 26, 2018 for trial.
