Teenager docked over armed robbery, assault

An 18-year-old apprentice, Jamiu Sunday has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court for allegedly robbing a man of his motorcycle and other belongings worth N843,000.
Sunday, whose residential address was not provided, is being tried on three-count charges bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, and assault occasioning harm.
Prosecuting counsel, I.O. Osobu informed the defendant and others at large committed the offence on November 1, 2023, at about 2:30 pm along Ipele Road Owo, Ondo State.
He said Sunday and his accomplice, while armed with an iron hoe and other dangerous weapons conspired to rob one Adepoju Mutairu of his Bajaj Motorcycle with number plate WWW883 UM valued at N700,000.00, one infinix phone valued at N85,000.00, one manual pumping machine valued at N10,000.00 and the sum of N48,000.00 total valued at N843,000
Osobu further alleged that the defendant on the same day, time, and place assaulted the victim and inflicted injuries on his head with an iron hoe
The offence, he said contravenes Sections 403A,402 (2), and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Vol I. Laws of Ondo State.
His plea was not taken, while the prosecutor through a written application urged the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
Defendant counsel, A.V. Ajayi prayed for an adjournment to enable him reply to the application
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni ordered the defendant to be remanded at the police station and adjourned the case till January 10, 2024, for ruling.
