Teenager docked over burglary

A teenager,  Olarewaju Ojo,  has been dragged before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for unlawfully breaking into a shop, where he allegedly stole electronics and money valued at N2.7 million.

The police brought Ojo before the court on Friday for conspiring with one other at large to steal some  items.

Items stolen were:  one Deep freezer, one L. G plasma Television, one polyester tape reader, one stabilizer and N100,000 cash kept inside a drawer.

The defendant is facing three counts bothering on burglary and stealing. But he pleaded not guilty.

The defendant was said to have committed the offences in March at about 4:00 am at Erinketa Street, Ondo.

The charge sheet read in part,” That you, Ojo Olarewaju, and one other at large on March 12, 2023, at about 4 am at Erinketa Street, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District, broke into the shop of one Fatima Ademola with an intent to steal therein and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section  and punishable under Section 413 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume  1 Law of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The police prosecutor, Charles Olagbayi, prayed to the court to remand the defendant in correctional facility  pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the state Ministry of Justice.

The defendant’s counsel, Mr Israel Ikuemenisan, did not oppose the prosecutor’s  remand application.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O. ijeh, granted the application of the prosecutor and ordered that the case file should be sent to the DPP for advice.

Ijeh adjourned the case till August 24, 2023, for issuance of advice.
