Teenager in court over false information

An 18-year-old apprentice, Nweke Ifedi Godwin, has been dragged before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo town, for giving false information to the police.
The police arraigned Godwin before the court on Tuesday for alllegedly telling lies that he and his son were assaulted by one Alhaji Nurudeen Olamuyiwa and Madam Folake Olamuyiwa.
He was alleged to have lied that the couple both beat you up, damage your phone, and also tore your cloth knowing to you to be false.
Godwin was also alleged to have conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace on two count charge.
The defendant was said to have committed the offence on October 22, 2023, at about 4pm at No 25, Awosika street, Yaba, Ondo, contrary to and punishable under Sections 125A(1)(a) and (2), and 249(d)of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The police prosecutor, Iyabo Omolara, said that the defendant on the same date, time and place conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Omolara told the court that three witnesses would testify in the case and asked for an adjournment.
Lawyer for the defendant, Barrister Pius Akintoye, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal terms.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Toyin Olowoookere, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She said the surety must be resident within the jurisdiction, with affidavit of means and identification cards.
Olowookere adjourned the case till December 12, 2023 for trial.
