Teenager jailed 16 months over stealing

A 19-year-old man, Habib Amusa, has been sentenced to 16 months imprisonment by an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court, for stealing school property valued at over N1m.

The convict committed the offence in September 2018 at Assodiqyah Group of Schools, Oke Baale, in the Osogbo Magisterial district.

 The prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Adegoke, told the court that the convict broke into the school and stole Ripple tank(Weight 150), 5 bar magnet, 1 pack of Crocodile clip, 1 Polythene rod, 1 Bimetallic strip, 2 Ray boxes, and so many things,  total valued at over  N1million belonging to one Sina Adeyanju.

Adegoke said the offence committed contravened sections 414 and 413 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 volume 11 law of Osun State, 2003.

The convict, who was tried on two count charge of stealing and house breaking admitted guilty to the first count. But he pleaded not guilty to the second count charge leveled against him by the police.

The convict had no legal representation when his case was called upon.

The Magistrate, Taofeek Badmus sentenced him to six months imprisonment for the first count-charge and thereby adjourned the matter till February 26, 2019 for hearing of the second count charge
