2024 NUJ Press Week: The Hope reporters, cameraman shine, clinch five professional awards

Reporters of Owena Press Limited, publishers of The Hope & Weekend Hope titles, secured five prestigious awards during the recently concluded Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ondo State Council Press Week on Friday.
The Editorial Page Editor, Mrs Maria Famakinwa, emerged as the Best Journalist in the State and also clinched the Grassroots Reporter of the Year award, recognising her dedication to impactful and community-focused journalism.
Mr Saheed Ibrahim, Education Page Editor, is a two-time recipient of the Best Investigative Journalist of the Year award. Once again, hel earned the honour for his in-depth and insightful investigative reports, further solidifying his reputation as a distinguished journalist in the state.
In addition, The Hope Photo Editor, Mr Peter Oluwadare, was recognised as the Best Photojournalist of the Year, a testament to his ability to capture compelling visuals that tell powerful stories.
Ore Correspondent, Mr Kayode Afolabi, received the Best Crime Reporter of the Year award, for his accurate and detailed crime reporting, which has contributed significantly to public awareness and security discourse.
The ceremony, which brought together journalists, media professionals, and stakeholders, celebrated excellence in various fields of journalism and highlighted the role of the media in shaping society.
For the past five years, The Hope reporters have consistently outperformed their counterparts in the state, earning multiple professional accolades and setting benchmarks for journalistic excellence.
This year’s awards further cement the organisation’s reputation for nurturing top-notch journalists who continue to excel in their respective beats.
