The Hope reporters win multiple awards at the DUBAWA Fellowship Awards
Saheed Ibrahim of Owena Press Limited, publishers of The Hope newspaper, has emerged as a double award winner at the 2024 Kwame Karikari Fact-checking Fellowship Awards, organised by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID).
The awards, presented during the 10th Anniversary Dinner and Awards Night of the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development in Abuja, recognised exceptional contributions to journalism in Nigeria and West Africa.
The fellowship drew Fellows from the Anglophone West African countries for a six-month engagement.
The Kwame Karikari Fact-checking Fellowship is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
Ibrahim clinched the prestigious Best Fellow Award (Joint Winner) and 1st Runner-Up for Best Fact-Check for his investigative report, “Investigating Fake Nigeria Customs Service Auctioning Accounts on Facebook.”
Also, Emmanuel Oluwadola, who interned at Owena Press Limited, showcased the rising talent in investigative journalism by winning the Alfred Opubor Next Gen Award for Best Fact-Check.
His award-winning report is titled, “Incorrect: MTN, AIRTEL Are Not Giving Free Data, Airtime to Celebrate Hilda Baci’s Guinness World Record”.
