Theft: Ekiti Police alert vehicles’ owners, drivers

Worried by the spate of incessant vehicles’ theft in Ekiti State, the Police Command has issued a serious warning to owners of cars and drivers in the State, to be very cautious.

The police spokesman in the state, Mr Sunday Abutu, gave the warning in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday.

He said in view of the proactive measures put in place by the Command to check the activities of car thieves in the state, criminal elements have evolved new methods of dispossessing owners of their vehicles.

The statement said It has come to the notice of the command that car thieves have adopted the use of master keys to unlock, start and remove cars from parks and garage.

“Consequently, the command wishes to advise members of the public, especially car owners and drivers to be extra vigilant and put in place security features that can safeguard their cars.

“To ensure the safety of their vehicles, owners and drivers are implored to install a tracking system, including an audible alarm system and anti-theft device, while they should not park at get-away position in, and also avoid parking in poorly lit areas.

Other measures released by the police are, always be cautious and do not leave your key in your car; do not leave your car unattended to for a long period without surveying and analysing the safely of the area; know your plate number off hand to enable the police take immediate action in case of theft; do not leave your original document in your car and do not leave your car in an isolated place among other measures.
