Theft lands man in jail

A 24-year-old man, Opeyemi Olawoye, has been sentenced to three months imprisonment by a Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for stealing one polo round neck and knicker  valued at N38,000.

The magistrate, Mrs Mosunmola Ikujuni, convicted and sentenced Olawoye, after she found him guilty of the offence.

Olawoye was charged with one count of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akao Moremi said the convict committed the offence on April 25, 2024, at Zone 6, Oluwatobi Street, off Mother and Child area, in Ondo.

The charge read in part,” That you, Opeyemi Olawoye, on April 25, 2024, at Zone 6, Oluwatobi Street, off Mother and Child Area, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisteria District, did steal one polo round neck worth N20,000 and a knicker valued at N18,000, total valued at N38,000, property of one Ayomide Yekini and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 (2)(a) and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The prosecutor, Akao Moremi, therefore, prayed the court to sentence him according to his plea.

The convict who had no legal representation, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, promising to desist from the act.

However, Ikujuni sentenced him to three months imprisonment or he should compensate the complainant with N38,000.
