A 19-year-old sales girl, Kehinde Olukoju has been remanded in Ondo Correctional Centre by an Akure Magistrates’ Court, for stealing her employer’s money.

The defendant, whose address was not provided , was convicted for stealing and for unlawful conversion, after she pleaded guilty to the count  levelled against her by the police.

The prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen, had earlier informed the court that the defendant committed the offence between August 22 and April, 2023,  at a bread bakery situated at  No 18, Car Wash area in Oshinle, Akure.

Omhenemhen told the court that the defendant, who was a staff of the bread company, Mr Chef Bakery, stole the sum of N280,150, being the proceeds of  bread sales belonging to one Mr. Femi Agbi.

The prosecutor said the defendant converted the stolen money to her personal use.

Giving the fact, the prosecutor said the defendant had be cautioned to desist from the act after she was given a second chance in the company. But she decided to continue with the act.

He said when interrogated by the police, she could not give a reasonable account of the alleged stolen money.

He further alleged that  investigation revealed that the defendant committed the crime.

The offence, according to him contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defence counsel, Kizito Duru, prayed the court to give the defendant an opportunity to make  restitution as she has promised to work and pay her debt.

Magistrate R.O. Yakubu, therefore, reserved the sentence of the convict till  May 18, 2023.

She ordered her remand at the Ondo female Correctional Centre.
