A retired Director of Procurement at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Chief Gabriel Ojo Alonge, has advised Corps members to look beyond their academic qualifications and embrace discipline as a fundamental trait in their career journey.

Addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream II) Corps members deployed to Ondo State, along with those dislodged from Lagos State, at the Ikare Akoko orientation camp, Alonge emphasised the importance of mentorship and emotional intelligence.

“Your impressive credentials are valuable, no doubt, but you need life coaches who will serve as a springboard to propel you to the top.

” This is why you must learn to control and manage your emotions for your own good,” he stated.

He urged Corps members to emulate Nigeria’s founding fathers, including Aminu Kano, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who achieved greatness through self-discipline.

Alonge further encouraged them to apply the life lessons gained during their orientation, promote unity, and collaborate in finding solutions to national challenges.

In her remarks, the Ondo State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, commended the scheme’s leadership for incorporating impactful and transformative programmes into the Corps members’ orientation.
