The introduction of 6-3-3-4 system regarding acquisition of vocational skills and aptitudes was presented by the National Policy on Education. This was primarily targeted at using education as a tool for national unity as well as enhancing the development of knowledge and skill acquisition for adaptation into the world of work and the larger society. Although, the skill is the learning ability to perform an action with determined results within a specified period.
Hence, skill acquisition is the art of learning to do something in order to earn a living or to survive and more so to help create employment, thereby giving back to the society. This has greatly helped many in actualizing their dreams and aid those that are not privileged to get white collar jobs, to work and become great entrepreneurs. There are many lucrative skills that are thriving today.
Considering both the university, trade centers, secondary and primary education, it is good to note that,primary mechanism for the creation of a knowledge in our economy and the development of human capital and human development all over the world, this is the pivotal role of education. Then the society/nation need to sit back and address the issue of educating, large sum of devotion on entrepreneurship be put forward at all levels of our educational domain.
Therefore, entrepreneurship education curriculum be set across, this should include entrepreneurial skills and attitudes in students/trainers to motivate entrepreneurial intentions or considerations of entrepreneurship as a career, critical thinking and implementations intentions.
The local trainers popularly known or called the artisan be encouraged as well. Virtually, everyone need to learn a skill, in the Western World you see women, men even youths engaging in learning practical skills in Pastry, Tailoring, Wall and Body designs, Painting, Photography, Hair Styles, Craft designs, Phone repairs and maintenance, electrical fittings and house wiring, Solar installations etc., to help their homes, society and their nations.
You will agree that the emergence of entrepreneurs is considered favourably as key policy strategy in many developed nations, and entrepreneurship is given the center stage which led to economic development. This owes to the fact that it contributes to nation’s wealth by creating employment opportunities, opening new markets, driving industrialization, as well as increase in productivity leading to equitable distribution of income and higher standard of living for the populace.
Remember that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Please learn a trade, encourage our youths, even the old to learn, it is never too late to learn at least a skill, you will be empowered for life.
