Three students have been arraigned before an Odigbo Magistrates’ Court for beating some Teaching Practice students in their school.
The defendants, Omolayo Olowoniyi,15; Gbenga Olowoniyi, 20 and Samuel Izeagwu, 27, were brought before Senior Magistrate D. O. Ogunfuyi, on two counts bordering on assault.
According to the prosecution, the defendants committed the offences on May 24, 2023 at about 3:30pm at Alagbado village in Ore, Ondo State.
The prosecutor, Inspector Usifo James, informed the court that the defendants armed themselves with dangerous weapons, such as bottles, sticks, cutlasses and attacked four teaching practice students of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo attached to Our Saviour Comprehensive College, Alagbado and inflicted injuries all over their bodies.
Those attacked include, Olafusi Olamiposi, Olabisi Micheal, Akintoye Olajide and Abiwo Adekunle.
The offences contravene Sections 516, 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the offences levelled against them.
Usifo prayed for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and gather his witnesses for trial.
The defence counsel led by Uche U. Abangwu, did not oppose the prosecutor’s application. But he prayed the court to grant the accused persons bail in most liberal terms.
Senior Magistrate Ogunfuyi admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered the defendants to be remanded at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre pending the perfection of their bail
He adjourned the case till August 23, 2023 for trial.
