Three docked for smoking Indian Hemp

Three men have been dragged before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo town, for allegedly smoking narcotic drugs in public place.

The accused persons; Olafisayo Olawale, 42, Adeniyi Adekunle, 42, and Adeleke Adekanmi, 39, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of weed suspected to be India Hemp.

The defendants were alleged to have smoked narcotic drugs in public place which they knew or reasonably believed could  spread infectious disease that is dangerous to  human beings.

The police brought the defendants before the court  for committing the offence contrary to and punishable under sections 517 and 247 (b) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The trio  were said to have committed the offence between February 13 and 14, 2019 at about 01:00am at Ondo town, in the Ondo Magisterial District.

The police prosecutor, sergeant Charles Olagbayi, urged the court   to remand  the  defendants   in Shegede prison custody pending  the legal advice from the   Director of Public Prosecution..

Lawyer for the defendants, Israel ikumenisan did not oppose   his client be remanded in prison custody.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Odenusi Fadeyi, therefore,  ordered the  remand of  the defendants in Shegede prison custody pending the outcome of the legal advice.

She,  adjourned the case till June 12, 2019 for DPP’s advice.
