Three docked for theft, receiving stolen goods

Three men, Mohammed Mustapha 30; Mohammed Nafiu Abdulahi, 25 and Kelvin Joshua, have been arraigned before an Odigbo Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing and receiving stolen property.

The police arraigned the defendants before Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu, on a two-count charge bordering on felony and stealing.

According to the prosecution, the defendants committed the offence on December 11, 2024, at about 10:00pm at lijoka via Ore, Ondo State.

The prosecutor, Inspector Usifoh James told the court that the defendants conspired and received a stolen property.

He alleged that the defendants received a stolen property; one Power Point Lister engine, value at about N1,280,000, property of one Ayanda Oluwatobi, from one Kelvin Joshua

He told the court that Oluwatobi received the stolen item from Joshua, who is now at the correctional centre in Okitipupa.

The offences contravene Sections 516(a) 427 of the Criminal, Code Cap. 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the offences.

Usifoh requested an adjournment to allow time to review the case file and prepare witnesses for trial.

Counsel for the defendants, Mrs K. M. Lawani, did not oppose the prosecutor’s request, but appealed to the court to grant bail to the defendants on lenient terms.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Akinlolu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case till February 28, 2025, for mention.
