Three docked over burglary, theft

Three men, Nasiru Bello, Joshua Adeyemo and Adedapo Adedayo have been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged house breaking and stealing.

Two out of the defendants, Bello, 42, and Adeyemo, 35, are facing a four-count charge of felony, house breaking and stealing , while Adedayo,21, is standing trial over three counts bothering on felony, stealing and burglary.

The Police Prosecutor, Abdulateef Suliaman, told the court that Bello, Adeyemo and others at large, sometimes in July 29,  2022 between the hours of 10:00am and 2:pm at Agota, Oda Road broke into the dwelling house of one Ebun Omotayo Joseph.

He also alleged that the defendants and their partners -in-crime stole 42 inches television valued at N107,000, One home theatre valued at N105,000, one stabilizer, valued at N25,000 and pressing Iron valued at N7,000, including other with total valued at N996,000, property of the complainant.

The prosecutor told the court that some of the items were recovered from their possession.

Suliaman told the court that Adedayo and others at large on August 10 and 19, at different locations along  Igbatoro Road, Akure, among other items, stole one 18KVA Alternator, valued at N500,000 belonging to Lawrence Olowoniyi and one 30KVA alternator valued at N250,000 property of Mr. Gbenga Akinseye.

According to Suliaman, the offences contravene Sections 411(2), 412, 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2016.

He, however, asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr C.O Falana, urged the court to grant the defendants bail. He promised that they would not jump bail.

Presiding Magistrate, N.K Aladejana, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1,000,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum, while he admitted Adedayo bail in the sum of N800,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He, thereafter, adjourned the cases till September 13, for hearing.
