Three held for beating minor to death

Three  middle-aged men have been  remanded at Olokuta prison by an Akure Magistrates’ Court  sitting at Oke-Eda for allegedly  killing a six-year-old boy  in Isua Akoko.

The  accused  persons; Dele Agbara,  Oluwatunmise  Gbara and Alagbara Ajayi, were said to have killed the victim, Akerele Kayode Sulaiman, by  beating him to death with a blunt  object.

The police prosecutor, Mr Uloh Goodluck, informed the  court that the trio, facing a two-count  charge, committed  the offence on June 20, 2019, at about   5:30pm at Oyara camp, Isua Akoko, in the Ondo State Magisterial District.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offence was said to be contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 324, and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The plea  of  the accused persons were not taken when the charge was read to them.

Goodluck, therefore, moved a motion  for the  remand of  the three accused persons in prison  pending the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

The  defence  counsel, Mr. Sola Agunloye, did not oppose the prosecutor’s application.

Magistrate Charles Adeyanju, ordered the remand of the three accused persons in Olokuta prison,  pending the issuance of the  advice.

Adeyanju also directed  the prosecutor to make both the original and duplicate of the case file available  to the court clerk, while the court clerk was mandated to dispatch the duplicate to the DPP’s office and keep the  original to the office of the Chief Registrar Ondo State.
