Three in court for assaulting police officers

Three men have been arraigned before an Odigbo Chief Magistrate Court, for assaulting two police officers.

 The trio, Akosile Toheeb 22; Toheeb Olawore 22 and Akosile Taiwo, 19, were brought before Chief Magistrate D. O Ogunfuyi, on three counts.

 According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on the August 7, 2023, at about 8.00pm at front of silver stone petrol station along Lagos Benin Ore express Road, Ore, Ondo State.

 The prosecutor, Inspector James Usifo told the court that the accused and others still at large conspired together and assaulted one Lawal Azeez and F/No: 516056 CORPORAL Temidayo Victor both police officers attached to police Divisional Headquarter Costain, Ore.

 According to Usifo, the defendants hit the officers on their heads and caused them deep cut injury.

 The offences contravene Section 516, 356 (2), 355 of the Criminal, Code Cap. 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

 When the charge was read, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the offences leveled against them.

 Usifo, therefore, sought for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and prepare his witnesses for trial.

The defence counsel, Mrs K. M. Lawani did not oppose the prosecutor’s application. But he prayed the court to grant the accused person bail in most liberal terms

 Chief Magistrate D. O. Ogunfuyi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum N250,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case till September 7, 2023, for hearing.
