Three remanded for robbery, murder

Three young men, Temitope Akinwale, Ibrahim Habib and Kayode Boluwaji, have been remanded by an Akure Magistrates’ Court over alleged murder and robbery.

Akinwale and Habib are facing a two-count charge bordering on robbery and murder, preferred against them by the men of the Ondo State Security Outfit, codenamed “Amotekun Corps”

The state Counsel, O.F Akeredolu, told the court that the defendants committed the offence at about 11.am on July 30, 2022 at Oba Akoko.

Akeredolu said the two defendants conspired to commit felony and armed robbery.

They were said to be armed with a dagger and knife, with which they robbed one Irewumi Awolumate of his motorcycle and also stabbed the victim on the neck, attempting to kill him.

Akeredolu said the offences were contrary to Sections 6, 1 (2)a of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Acy, Cap R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and Section 320 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

In the same vein, Kayode Boluwaji and other still at large was also brought before the same court on two-count of felony and kidnapping.

Akeredolu told the court that Boluwaji and his accomplice on August 7, 2022 at Odigbo town conspired to kidnapp one Jude Eke.

The offence contravene Section 2,3 (ii)(b) and 6 of Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2010

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The state counsel urged the court to remand the defendants in a custodial centre to allow him duplicate the case file and forward same to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The defendants, O. Adedire prayed for an adjournment to enable her to file a counter affidavit to the application

The Magistrate, D.S Sekoni thereafter ordered the remand of the defendants in the Amotekun custody.

He adjourned the case till September 22, 2022, for ruling on their remand application.
