Three persons have been remanded in Ondo Correctional Centre by an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing pigs.
The defendants are Akouta Chamel Delore, 30, Daudu Biola, 29, and Sanmi Aminu,52.
They allegedly committed the offence between September 2021 and May 2022 at Mitelo Farms Nigeria Limited, Ondo State in the Ondo State magisterial District.
The prosecutor, Inspector, Sulieman Abdulateef told the court that the defendants stole pigs valued N3.420 million, property of Mitelo Farms Nigeria Limited.
The charge read: That you Akouta Chamel Delore ‘m’, Daudu Biola ‘m’, Sanmi Aminu ‘m’and others at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did steal pigs worth Three million four hundred and twenty thousand naira N3,420,000.00 properties of Mitelo Farms Nigeria Limited Ogbese, Ondo State and thereby. committed an offence contrary to section 383 and punishable under section 390 (6) of the criminal code Cap 37 vol. 1laws of Ondo State Nigeria 2006.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor prayed the court to adjourn the case to enable him present the prosecution witnesses and prepare them for trial.
Their counsel, Gbenga Adedugbe pleaded with the court that his clients were innocent of the offences leveled against them.
Abudlateef opposed the bail application made by the defendants counsel saying that the defendants conspire together to steal the pigs and if court should grant them bail, they would jump bail.
He urged the court to remand them for them to present for their trail.
Magistrate, Tope Aladejana in his ruling, ordered the remand of the defendants in prison.
He adjourned the case till July 18, 2022 for ruling on bail application.
