Tinubu commends Interior Minister over ministry’s reform

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his significant reforms within the Ministry.

The commendation came during a public address yesterday at the state house council chambers, where the president acknowledged the remarkable progress made under Tunji-Ojo’s leadership.

Tunji-Ojo’s dedication and contributions were recognized as pivotal in changing the dynamics of the ministry for the better.

Recall the Minister ensured that about 200,000 backlog of passport applications were cleared in two weeks without spending a dime.

Tunji-Ojo also raised 500 million fines for inmates to decongest prisons across Nigeria without spending a Kobo of government money.

He revolutionized passport processing, promising a two-week timeline, and introduced home and office delivery of passports which commenced January 8, 2024. 

He also ensured the alignment of  paramilitary salaries with those of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), ensuring fairness and equity.

Tinubu highlighted the positive impact of the reforms, stating that messages of Tunji-Ojo’s incredible performance had reached him.

He mentioned the reduction of burdens on Nigerians, both at home and abroad, particularly in passport issuance, as one of the noteworthy achievements of the ministry under the minister’s guidance.

In his words, “II commend you for your tireless efforts on the renovation of the Ministry of Interior Passport Assurance, lessening the frustration on Nigerians, home and abroad, during the time that is being taken.

“Not only that, you are eliminating the fact that the blame is on our country, the hunger shown by people is reduced, and I have messages to commend your effort, and today is another game changer,” he said.

The President emphasized the federal government’s support for the ongoing initiatives in the Ministry of Interior. He applauded his efforts, indicating a collective recognition of the positive changes brought about by the minister’s leadership.

The president’s public commendation illuminates the significant progress achieved in the Ministry of Interior, highlighting the government’s dedication to enhancing service delivery for citizens.

The event marked the launch of the expatriate employment levy and served as a platform for President Tinubu to commend the progress made under Hon. Tunji-Ojo’s leadership.

The president reiterated the administration’s commitment to implementing impactful reforms across sectors for the welfare of Nigerians.
