Claim: A Facebook user claims that President Bola Tinubu presented 2025 Toyota Land Cruisers to all Southwest Grand Chief Imams on October 5, 2025.

Full Text

A Facebook user, Joe Vicar…, posted a claim on October 6, 2025, that the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, presented 2025 Toyota Land Cruisers to all Southwest Grand Chief Imams, including those of Lagos, Ibadanland, Abeokuta, Akure, Osogboland and Ado-Ekiti on October 5, 2025.

The post further accuses Tinubu of desperation ahead of the 2027 election, comparing his alleged actions to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s political tactics before the 2015 election.

Screenshot of the claim on Facebook

The claim reads in part: “2027 is a Done Deal. BREAKING NEWS. President Bola Tinubu present 2025 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER to all Southwest Grand Chief lmams, Today 5th October 2025. Chief Imam of Lagos, Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Chief Imam of Abeokuta, Chief Imam of Akure, Chief Imam of Osogboland, Chief Imam of Ado-Ekiti.” (Sic)

As of October 11, 2025, the claim had garnered 248 reactions, 190 comments and 76 shares.

A survey of the comment section shows mixed reactions. While some users applauded Tinubu and endorsed him for the 2027 election, others gave counter opinions.

One of the users, Chris Chidi, wrote, “Nigeria is rich. I also wish Tinubu will give me a 2026 Land Cruiser. With or without the Land Cruiser, it is Tinubu till 2031.” (Sic)

Another user, Oke-osisi Efunamba, in a seeming sarcastic comment, said: “Is there any eastern traditional leader who benefits from that?????,. No. Good, it is one Nigeria. Thank you.” (Sic)

A similar claim can be found on Facebook here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

We decided to fact-check this claim due to its potential to mislead the public and its relevance to the sociopolitical situation in Nigeria.

Verification

We conducted a keyword search on Google to verify the claim. The result revealed that Tinubu presented a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado to the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdul-Ganiyy Abubakry Agbotomokekere, for his contribution to peacebuilding and religious harmony in Oyo State.

The vehicle was reportedly handed over to the Ibadan Chief Imam by Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, on October 5, 2025.  The report can be found on TVNews and Tribune Online.

We observed that the actual date was the Sheikh’s 90th birthday anniversary, while the presidency, through one of his official Facebook pages, congratulated him.

Screenshot of the Ibandanland Chief Imam’s Facebook post showing the moment he received the vehicle.

However, there are no reputable sources, press statements, or reports that indicate Tinubu also presented vehicles to the other listed Chief Imams mentioned in the Facebook claim.

We did not find any statement from the Nigerian State House or the Muslim Ummah of Southwest Nigeria (MUSWEN) confirming such a collective presentation.

We ran a check on the Facebook account that posted the claim. We found that he is of Igbo descent, giving his account name, profile poster and content on his timeline. This might be why his misleading post berated the president for giving out vehicles to Chief Imams in the Southwest and acting desperately towards the 2027 presidential election.

Conclusion

The claim that President Bola Tinubu presented 2025 Toyota Land Cruisers to all Southwest Grand Chief Imams on October 5, 2025, is misleading.

While it is true that Tinubu, through an Oyo Senator, presented a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser to the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, there is no verified evidence that all Southwest Chief Imams received the same gift.
