Elder statesman and National leader of the Yoruba socio- cultural group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and other prominent members have expressed strong optimism that the President- elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will restore Nigerians’ lost hope.
They expressed the optimism during the 97th birthday celebration of Pa Fasoranti in his country home, Akure, yesterday.
Pa Fasoranti, the celebrant quipped “this is not the Nigeria of our dream. A lot has gone wrong, but I believe strongly that Tinubu will restore Nigerians’ lost hope.”
A former Secretary to the Federal Government and the Olu of Ilu Abo, Oba Olu Falae, said Tinubu has the wherewithal to rescue the sinking ship of the country.
He said the President-elect, after his swearing in must quickly address the insecurity and economic situation in the country.
His words: “The incoming administration should ensure that everything is done to cut down unnecessary expenditure and do all within his capacity to rescue Nigeria’s sinking ship.
He particularly stressed the need to resuscitate the nation’s comatose refineries if the nation must record any meaningful economic and infrastructural development.
Speaking on Nigeria’s debt profile, Falae said “it is not politically reasonable for any government to be borrowing money to pay salaries, the World Bank and IMF have been saying this and I am saying the same, hence for Nigeria to be better, the incoming administration should desist from this habit.
The immediate past General Secretary of Afenifere, Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa, said Tinubu already has a blueprint and the pathway to make the country better.
“Tinubu knows what to do to make the country better, he already has the blueprint and I hope he follows it. I believe strongly in him and he has all it takes to turn the country around.”
The Ondo State chairman of the organisation, Chief Korede Duyile lamented that Buhari has plunged the nation’s economy into ruins.
He, however, enjoined Tinubu to restore Nigerians’ hope through the implementation of cogent campaign policies and programmes.
In his own submission, the Ekiti State leader of Afenifere, Prince Ade Alonge said there is more to be done by the incoming administration in fixing the economy.
Commenting on the $800m loan demanded by the outgoing administration, Alonge said “I do not in any way support this; he is adding more problems for Bola Tinubu.
“He pushed the issue of Census to Tinubu, he pushed fuel subsidy to him as well and now in less than 20 days, he is applying for another $800m loan.
“Buhari is just complicating matters for the incoming administration. This should have been left for Tinubu to handle and I do not support it because he is accumulating more debts for the nation.”
Also speaking, the National Publicity Secretary of the organisation; Kole Omololu expressed confidence in the incoming administration, noting that “Tinubu is a financial guru and Nigerians should expect radical changes in the nation’s economy.
The former Commissioner for Information in Ondo State and a prominent member of Afenifere; Chief Femi Aluko expressed optimism that brighter future awaits the country under Tinubu’s administration.
