¢…elevates Oluyede as CDS, appoints Shaibu Chief of Army Staff
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s national security architecture.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, the President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
Other appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff; Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs, including General Musa, for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership to the nation.
He charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance and comradeship within the Armed Forces.
“The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expresses most profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership.
“The President charges the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement added.
