Tinubu urges action to curb fuel tanker explosions

President Bola Tinubu has called on traffic control agencies to implement stricter measures to prevent recurring fuel tanker explosions across the country.

This directive came on Sunday as the president expressed his condolences to the government and people of Enugu State following a tragic fuel tanker explosion that claimed lives on Saturday.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, and titled ‘President Tinubu mourns victims of fuel tanker explosion, condoles with Enugu state government’, Tinubu extended his sympathies to the affected families and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured.

The incident occurred along the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway when a fuel tanker reportedly lost control and burst into flames. This tragedy comes just days after a similar incident in Niger State, which claimed over 80 lives.

The president emphasised the need for caution and adherence to safety protocols by road users, particularly operators of fuel tankers.

Tinubu further directed traffic enforcement agencies to step up measures aimed at curbing the recurrence of such devastating accidents nationwide.
