Tinubu urges traditional rulers’ collaboration for grassroots development

By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for stronger collaboration between traditional rulers and all tiers of government as a catalyst for grassroots development and national unity.

Delivering the President’s message at the coronation ceremony of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III—the 41st Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland—in Ilesa, Osun State, was the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.

President Tinubu emphasised the central role traditional institutions play in fostering communal harmony and preserving cultural heritage.

“Let us work hand in hand to confront the challenges facing our people and deliver meaningful change—change that is visible in our schools, markets, roads, and reflected in the dignity of every citizen,” the President stated.

“On behalf of the Government and the good people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I extend my warmest congratulations to His Imperial Majesty on this noble ascension to the ancestral throne of his forebears. This occasion is not only the crowning of a king but a reaffirmation of centuries of tradition, wisdom, and dignity that define the soul of Ijesaland.

“As we witness the coronation of Oba Haastrup, we are reminded of the enduring legacy of this ancient kingdom—renowned for its valour, learning, and unwavering cultural pride.

“The throne of the Owa Obokun Adimula is not merely a seat of royal power; it is a sacred custodian of the values, aspirations, and spiritual heritage of the Ijesa people. It is a beacon that lights the path of continuity from our ancestors to our children.

“To the sons and daughters of Ijesaland, I bring you the greetings of a grateful nation. Your contributions to the growth and unity of our country are known and cherished. Ijesaland is a land of honour, industry, and distinction—a land that has given Nigeria men and women of brilliance, conscience, and character.”

He described the coronation as a moment of immense cultural and historical significance, congratulating Oba Haastrup on his ascension to the ancestral throne and hailing it as a reaffirmation of the wisdom and dignity that define the Ijesa people.

Commending the monarch’s humility, intellect, and commitment to service, Tinubu remarked, “You embody the noble virtues that this throne demands—humility, courage, intellect, and compassion.”

The President lauded Ijesaland for its longstanding contributions to national development, noting that the region is known for its honour, industry, and cultural pride.

He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on revitalising key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture.

“In our royal institutions, we find deep wells of wisdom and moral authority,” Tinubu added. “Traditional rulers are central to promoting peace, resolving conflicts, and ensuring sustainable development at the grassroots level.”

He urged Oba Haastrup to serve as a beacon of unity and progress, expressing confidence that his reign would usher in peace and prosperity for Ijesaland.
