The pioneer National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebisi Akande, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms as a necessity designed to eradicate bad governance and liberate Nigeria from the clutches of political brigandage.
Speaking in Ila-Orangun, Osun State, during his 86th birthday lecture, Akande stated that the policies under Tinubu’s administration are strategically tailored to steer Nigeria back onto the path of sustainable growth and development envisioned by its founding fathers.
Akande reaffirmed his confidence in the president’s “Renewed Hope-Agenda,” asserting that the reforms are already yielding positive outcomes. According to him, the APC was founded to restore good governance in Nigeria, and Tinubu has been relentless in pursuing that vision.
“Today, I am happy that our great party is working tirelessly to liberate Nigeria and permanently end bad governance that had plagued the country for years. So, I am fulfilled and I don’t have any regret whatsoever on anything because All Progressives Congress was formed as political party to remove the bad governance that Nigerians endured over the years, and the work is ongoing,” Akande said.
He emphasised that the efforts of both former President Buhari and the current administration under Tinubu are directed towards rectifying decades of poor leadership. While acknowledging the challenges still facing the country, Akande urged Nigerians to remain honest and committed to doing things the right way to ensure progress.
“President Bola Tinubu’s policy aims to liberate Nigeria from its current challenges and set the nation on a path to prosperity. In a few years, we’ll see the positive impact of his policies,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of education, Akande called on parents and guardians to prioritise their children’s learning, describing quality education as a vital legacy for a brighter and safer future.
Earlier in the lecture, Dr Adeoye Oyewole, a Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, urged Nigerians to prioritise their health and essential needs in light of the prevailing socioeconomic realities.
“We need to reflect more about things that are very important, not urgent—our health financing, our family, our children, our own physical health, education of our children. That is the priority,” Oyewole said. He cautioned against wasteful spending on frivolities and ostentatious displays of wealth, stressing that such practices have adverse effects on both mental and physical health.
In their remarks, Professor Olu Aina, the founding Registrar of the National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB), and Prince Tunde Ponle, Chairman of MicCom Golf and Resort, commended Akande as a model of exemplary leadership. They urged young Nigerians aspiring to enter politics to emulate his qualities of honesty, intellect, and transparency.
As part of the celebrations, secondary school students who attended the event were taken on a facility tour of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, showcasing the institution’s infrastructure.
