The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced that several top bandit commanders were killed in a series of airstrikes conducted in Zamfara State.
In a statement released on Sunday, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, revealed that the strikes, carried out in collaboration with ground troops, also left several other bandits injured.

Although Akinboyewa did not specify the number of casualties, he disclosed that local intelligence confirmed significant losses among bandits loyal to the notorious leader Kachallah Bello Turji.
He added that despite the successful operation, the whereabouts of Turji remain unknown.

“Scores of bandits were neutralised, while many others, including some top commanders, sustained varying degrees of injuries,” he said.
“Following the intense engagement, Kachallah Turji’s whereabouts remain unknown, adding further pressure to his crumbling network.”
The NAF spokesperson described Operation Fansan Yamma as a well-coordinated air-ground assault, emphasising the armed forces’ unwavering determination to restore peace and security to the region.
He explained that the operation was meticulously executed, with real-time coordination from an Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform that ensured accurate target identification.
According to him, the bandits were observed fleeing eastward from the hills in a desperate attempt to escape, prompting further airstrikes that successfully neutralised additional targets.
“The identified targets were swiftly engaged using rockets and cannons in multiple passes, delivering devastating blows to the enemy.
The aircrew maintained visual and radio contact with the ground troops,” he stated.
The success of the operation has been met with widespread celebration among locals in Zamfara State, who expressed relief and gratitude for its impact.
Akinboyewa also confirmed that several kidnapped victims were freed, offering hope to families affected by the banditry.
“The Nigerian Air Force remains steadfast in its commitment to working with ground forces to eradicate all forms of criminality in the country.
Together, we will defeat all enemies threatening the security of our territories and the well-being of our people, paving the way for the peace and prosperity of our great nation,” Akinboyewa concluded.
