Prominent political figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Action Alliance (AA), under the umbrella of Nigeria Workstation, have finalised arrangements to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in what is being described as one of the biggest political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among those set to join the ruling party are Mr. Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, Convener of Nigeria Workstation and former Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ondo State; High Chief Olutope Adebambo, former Chairman of Akoko Northwest Local Government and chieftain of the SDP; Chief (Mrs.) Rachael Ajayi, the 2020 Deputy Governorship Candidate of the SDP; Hon. Blessing Ologun, immediate past Assistant State Treasurer of the PDP; and Hon. Omotayo Obolo, popularly known as Mitchel, a former Special Assistant to ex-Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
The official defection ceremony will take place at the Akure City Hall on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 12 noon. The Ondo State APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, alongside members of the State Executive Committee, will formally receive the defectors into the party.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is expected to personally welcome the new entrants and receive what has been described as the “instrument of surrender” from the influential grassroots politicians, many of whom have been notable opposition figures in the state’s political landscape.
According to a statement signed by High Chief Olutope Adebambo, Director of Mobilisation for Nigeria Workstation, the move underscores a renewed commitment to unity and collaboration for the progress of Ondo State under the APC-led administration.
