Trader docked for allegedly stealing churches’ windows

A 38-year-old trader, Timileyin Akinyotu, has been arraigned before an Odigbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing churches’ windows.

The Ondo State Police command arraigned the defendant before Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu on a three-count charge bordering on burglary and theft.

According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on September 14, 2024, at about 4:00 am in the Ogbe area of Ore, Ondo State.

The prosecutor, Inspector James Usifoh, told the court that the defendant allegedly broke into several churches in the area and stole aluminium windows which value were yet to be determined.

He also alleged that the defendant was found in possession of eight aluminium glass windows for which he could not provide a satisfactory account of.

The offence contravenes Sections 411, 415, and 88 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him.
Inspector Usifoh, therefore, requested an adjournment to allow him time to study the case file and prepare his witnesses for trial.

The defence counsel, Mr S. E. Tiewe, did not oppose the prosecutor’s application but prayed the court to grant his client bail on the most liberal terms.

Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to December 20, 2024, for mention.
