Trader seeks dissolution of 21-yr-old marriage

A 35-year-old trader, Mrs Esther Alexander middle, has approached an Akure Customary Court, seeking for the dissolution of her 21-year-old marriage with his estranged husband.
Esther alleged that her husband, Mr Alexander Isawa, who she bore four children for him, was not responsible as a husband and father to his children.
“Anytime I refused him sex, he would beat hell out of my life. He is found of destroying my property whenever we had misunderstanding.
She lamented, ”My Lord, my husband is irresponsible. He impregnated me after my first period, before I knew that was pregnant it was six month after we had sex together”.
“My husband accused me of promiscuity, he never trusted me for once in the marriage, he told me that he is no longer interested in the marriage,” she explained.
According to her, I built house with my wealth but my husband did not appreciate that, what he could do was to beat me like drum.
Esther told the court that her husband told her that he would kill her and no body would query him for that.
According to her, her husband was maltreatment her, saying he stole her N100,000 which she wanted to use to buy goods.
The petitioner urged the court to order the respondent to move out of her house because he was tired of the marriage and he did not contributed to it.
She told the court that she could not longer receive call at home because of her husband attitude.
She urged the court to dissolve the marriage and the custody of the children in the marriage should be awarded to her, but prayed that her husband be responsible for the feeding, education and maintenance of their children saying she was no longer have interest in the marriage.
The respondent was not in the court to defend his case but he was represented that a legal counsel.
Counsel to the respondent Mr. E.J Akhagbenin, during cross examination, asked the woman the amount her husband pay for her bride price and Esther replied that he paid N5,500. Which was N4,000 for her father and N1,500 for her mother.
Counsel to the petitioner, Mr. Akande Toyin Imoru, urged the court for an adjournment to enable her witness which is the first born of the family, Samson Alexander to present in court.
The president of the court, Mr Oluwasegun Rotiba, ordered both parties to embrace peace and look for a way to settle the matter because of their children.
The court adjourned the case till 18th, August, 2020.
