Traders docked for stealing 49 bags of rice

Two traders; Sunday Onitiju , 60 and Seun Ismaila, 30, have been arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing of 49 bags of rice.
The Prosecuting Inspector, Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the accused persons conspired to commit felony to wit stealing on August 3 and 4, 2019 at Omitoto area of Ile-Ife.
He said that they stole 49 bags of rice, a bag of honey, three and half cartoons of vegetable oil and three cartoons of Indomine noodles, valued at N744, 550.
According to him, the duo broke into the shop of the complainant, Iroegbu Emmanuel, with intent to commit felony.
The offences were said to contravene sections 390 (9), 413 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and breaking preferred against them.
The defence counsel, Mr Philip Fasanmi, prayed the court for the bail of his clients in most liberal term.
Fasanmi assured the court that the accused persons would not jump bail, adding that they would produce substantial sureties.
Magistrate Bose Idowu granted each of the accused persons bail of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Idowu said that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means and produce tax clearance certificates and adjourned till August 23, 2019 for hearing.
