Market women at Isikan, in Akure South Local Government area of Ondo State, have called on the state government to provide better facilities to improve the condition of their market.
The Iyaloja General of Isikan Market, Chief Mrs. Bolarinwa Temidayo, made the appeal in an exclusive interview with The Hope, yesterday.
She expressed dissatisfaction with the current condition of the market, stating that it has deteriorated and requires urgent intervention.
According to her, there is an urgent need to renovate the gates, particularly those in Phase One, which are in poor condition.
“The market needs renovation. All the gates are in bad shape. We use ropes to close them. Our fences are also damaged and need repairs.
“We have even contributed money to repair our toilets, but we still need someone to be employed to help maintain them,” Temidayo added.
She also raised concerns about the security of the market, noting that while the government is funding five security personnel for Phase Two, only one officer is stationed in Phase One, where provisions are sold. She emphasized the need for the government to employ more security personnel to safeguard the market.
“The security situation is not good. We are supposed to have four security personnel in phase one, but we have only one.”
