The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and infrastructural development across the state, stressing that without law and order, sustainable progress and investor confidence cannot be achieved.
He made this assertion during a courtesy visit by the Olowo of Owo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, who is also the Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas on Wednesday, at the governor’s office in Akure.
During the visit, the governor noted that the administration’s OUR EASE agenda continues to shape its policies and programmes, particularly in the areas of security, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and good governance.
“We talk about orderliness and rule of law daily because without peace and order, there can be no progress. That’s why we’ve made Ondo State one of the safest and most peaceful states in Nigeria,” the governor said, citing the synergy between the Amotekun Corps and other federal security agencies as key to this success.
He disclosed that the government is set to distribute additional 50 Hilux vehicles to various security agencies to enhance operational effectiveness, further reinforcing the state’s security architecture.
Speaking on infrastructural development, Aiyedatiwa noted that road projects have been flagged off and some are due for commissioning in the coming days across the northern, central, and southern senatorial districts in the state.
He also highlighted efforts in the education sector, revealing that over 2,000 teachers have recently been recruited into public schools, while technical colleges, secondary and primary schools are being renovated and rebuilt.
“In the area of agriculture, Ondo State remains the leading cocoa-producing state in Nigeria. We continue to encourage mechanised farming and support our farmers to ensure food security and sustainable livelihoods,” he added.
On water supply, the governor explained that ongoing projects supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the French Development Agency (AFD) are at various stages, assuring residents that potable water will soon be available across the state.
The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to the full transformation of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital Complex in Ondo into a full-fledged university, pledging to finalise all outstanding structural reforms.
He expressed gratitude to the royal fathers for their cooperation, especially in resolving traditional boundary disputes and maintaining peace among communities.
“Your support is helping us to prevent crises that used to arise from expansionist tendencies among communities. Traditional rulers remain our closest partners in ensuring lasting peace in Ondo State,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
Earlier in his address, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, congratulated the governor on his electoral victory, stating that the overwhelming mandate was a testament to the people’s confidence in his leadership.
“Your resilience in governance is remarkable. You have catered for various interests, education, health, infrastructure and the people rewarded that with a fresh mandate,” Oba Ogunoye said.
The monarch also praised the governor for reducing the state’s debt burden, likening the feat to the achievements of past visionary leaders.
The monarch further commended key appointments made by the governor, particularly the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac; and the Permanent Secretary, Government House and Protocol, Alhaji Mudashiru, describing them as credible, competent and deserving of their positions.
He also lauded the performance of Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the state Amotekun Corps Commander, who, according to him, leads by example, even venturing into the forest during operations to safeguard lives and property.
“We know leadership when we see it. These are people of character and excellence, and you have placed the right people in the right positions,” he remarked.
The Olowo thanked the governor for appointing him as Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, assuring him of continuous support from the traditional institution.
“We are the true representatives of the people at the grassroots. We will continue to support your administration and help you mobilise the people for progress,” he assured.
Also speaking during the visit, the Olumoru of Imoru, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rotimi Obamuwagun, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his resounding 18-0 victory in the last election, an unprecedented feat in the state’s political history.
“Winning all 18 local government areas is historic. It proves the depth of support and the quality of leadership you offer. Everyone in Ondo State is proud of your achievements,” Oba Obamuwagun said.
He also thanked the governor for fulfilling promises made to traditional rulers, particularly in welfare, infrastructure, and security.
Those present at the event included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac; Permanent Secretary, Government House and Protocol, Mr. Mudashiru Adegbeha; and the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye.
