Tragedy struck in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, following the news of a forty-three-year-old man, identified as Femi Adeniran, who reportedly drown in a river located along Afao road, Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
Though, the cause of the incident is currently a subject of controversy, it was however gathered from an impeccable source close to the police in the state that the incident occurred shortly after the deceased in company of one of his friends had gone to check his plot of land in the area.
The victim, a motor mechanic and notable member of Nigeria Automobile Technician Association (NATA) was said to have bought the plot of land in the area few years ago.
It was learnt that residents of the area had contracted him that some people were trespassing on the land which made him to embark on a journey to the area before his to got missing.
The development was said to have thrown his family into pandemonium after which the report was lodged at a Divisional Police station in the town.
However, the inability of the late Adeniran to return home after several hours was said to have made the family raise an alarm, after which some inhabitants of the area to embarked on a search party for the missing man,suspecting that he might have been swept away by waves.
As part of rescue mission, some local swimmers in the town were said to have been contacted in the area to trace the river bank in a bid to find him.
Efforts of the swimmers reportedly paid off few hours later as the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered on the river bank where it was hanged between some pieces of wood.
Speaking on the matter, an impeccable source at the Ekiti State Police Command, said that upon the receipt of report, detectives were given the assignment to investigate the case.
When our correspondent arrived at the scene of the incident, residents of the area who are mainly Okada riders were seen in group discussing the development, while police officers were seen in company of the deceased’s family.
Contacted, the Ekiti State Police image maker, Mr. Sunday Abutu, confirmed the receipt of the incident. He would however stated that investigation has commenced on the matter, while the body of deceased will be released to the family for burial as soon as investigation is completed on the matter.
