Tragedy: Man kills peacemaker in Ekiti

Awedele area of Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State was on Thursday  thrown into mourning, following the death of a 33-year-old man who was stabbed to death by a co-tenant.

As of the time of filing this report,  residents of the area told our correspondent the suspect, an Okada rider and father of two, had engaged in an argument with his wife at the early hour of the day.

The argument, according to the source  was said to have later degenerated into a scuffle between the couple, which later attracted other neighbours to the scene.

The wife was later rescued from the scene and taken to an unknown destination by the neighbours, a development which did not go down well with the husband.

The Hope Metro gathered that the man accused the deceased, who has one of the co-tenants of rescuing his wife from the scene, which later led to an argument between the duo.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect threatened to kill the deceased, should he fail to bring out his wife from her hideout.

Few minutes later, he was said to have dashed into the kitchen and came out with a knife which he used to stabbed the 33-year-old man at the chest.

The co-tenant was reportedly rushed to a private hospital in the area by the neighborhood, where all efforts made by the doctors to revive him proved abortive.

He was later confirmed dead by the doctors.

The incident later attracted more residents to the area, including the family of the deceased who later threatened to retaliate the death of the deceased.

It took the quick intervention of the police at the Ekiti State Police Command to save the situation while residents of the area who later handed the suspect over to the police and he was immediately whisked away.

Speaking on the issue, a young man who gave his name as Kehinde Adereti and claimed to be a relative of the deceased, described the suspect as a troublesome man in the area.

He said he had contacted other members of the family for further action on the matter.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ekiti State Police Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, confirmed the receipt of the incident and explained that the suspect has been detained at the Homicide Section of the command.

He added that the corpse of the victim has been deposited at the morgue of the Ekiti State Specialist Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, while further investigation has also commenced on the matter.
