Tragedy: Two students crushed to death in Ondo

Tragedy struck late yesterday on the Akure-Ondo road, near Olokunta community in Akure, Ondo State capital, when a Toyota collided with a bicycle, resulting in the immediate deaths of two Federal Polytechnic, Ile Oluji students.
The students, who were on the bicycle, were declared dead at the scene. Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Response, Prince Oriade Wellington Adebawo, and other road users arrived within five minutes to assist, but the victims could not be saved.
Adebawo expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and condemned the reckless driving that caused the accident.
He warned drivers to avoid speeding and to exercise greater caution to prevent such tragedies.
In a statement, Adebawo highlighted the importance of vigilance and safety measures to avert similar incidents in the future.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC) Ondo State Axis, has also voiced deep sorrow over the deaths.
The statement, signed by Comr. Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua (Chairman), Comr. Oluwanishola Ajibola (Secretary General), and Comr. Kehinde Blessing (Public Relations Officer), offered condolences to the families and peers of the victims.
“This loss is a heavy blow to the Ondo State student community. The tragic deaths of Chukwu Athanasius and Oladokun Oyindamola remind us of the fragility of life,” the statement said. “These were young individuals with promising futures, and their loss is deeply felt.”
The NANS statement concluded by stressing the preciousness of life and the right to safety, extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families, and hoping their memories inspire efforts for safer roads and justice.
