Troops dismantle cattle-rustling syndicate, arrest three in Taraba

By Tola Gbadamosi

In a renewed crackdown on cattle rustling, troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Operation Golden Peace, have intercepted a large consignment of stolen livestock and arrested three suspects in Taraba State.

Acting on intelligence, soldiers apprehended the rustled animals on January 27, 2025, at Namnai village in Gassol Local Government Area.

The Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, confirmed the operation in a statement to The Hope Metro.

The suspects—Sabiu Lawal, Haruna Ayuba, and Yusuf Mukawo—were found in possession of 174 cows and 57 sheep, believed to have been stolen from border villages between Plateau and Taraba states.

Investigations suggest that the livestock were being smuggled towards Cameroon via Karamati in Gashaka Local Government Area.

The army, in collaboration with local stakeholders, is working to trace the rightful owners and ensure the return of the stolen animals.

The 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security across Taraba State and urged the public to provide credible intelligence to aid in combating criminal activities.
