Troops nab suspected gunrunner, recover submachine gun

Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended a suspected gunrunner, Alhaji Adamu Usman, in Taraba State, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle the proliferation of illegal arms.

The operation, conducted on January 13, 2025, was based on credible intelligence that led the troops to Usman’s residence in Maraban Gassol, Gassol Local Government Area.
Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, disclosed details of the operation in a statement provided to The Weekend Hope.
During the search of the premises, a fabricated submachine gun was discovered, allegedly linked to illicit arms trafficking networks.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, lauded the troops for their professionalism and courage.
He reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to maintaining peace and addressing the challenges posed by illegal arms in Taraba State.
He further called on the public to support security efforts by providing credible information that could assist in combating insecurity in the region.
