National Association of University Students, Osun State chapter has called on President Ahmed Tinubu to address the astronomical increase in fees in various tertiary institutions across the country.
The students lamented that the recent increase in tuition for Federal Universities, especially Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, will throw many youths out of school.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Osogbo, NAUS, president Comrade Popoola Olayinka and other executive members said education is a right of every citizen and never a privilege, stressing that the government must prioritise education and make it affordable.
Olayinka, who said the association, in conjunction with the OAU student Union, has given a five-day ultimatum for management to reverse the fee increase, hinted that failure to yell to their demand would consequently lead to mass action.
According to him, other demands are the closure of the student payment portal and the total suspension of any payment into the accounts of OAU until all demands are met.
