The President of the Student Union Government of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, Comrade Oluwasegun Obamuwagun has lauded the reduction in tuition fees of the institution by the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Akeredolu had last week reduced the tuition fees of the institution by N30,000 and N50,000 depending on the courses with effect from 2019/2020 academic session.
Expressing his gratitude on behalf of the students, Obamuwagun said the step will bring relief to both the parents and the students at large.
“Considering the hardship in town, if a burden of N20,000 or N30,000 is lifted off someone’s shoulder, I think the person is expected to be grateful. So for the little he has done, we are grateful,” he stressed.
He however appealed for more reduction of the fees to further reduce the burden on the parents and the students.
The General Secretary of the union, Oluwagbogo Taiwo while appreciating the governor said the students still want the fees to be reduced further because of the hardship in the country.
“We are grateful to the governor for at least reducing the fees. But we want the reduction to cut across all faculties including the faculty of law which was excluded.
“We actually want the reduction to go round to a more suitable and affordable amount”, he noted.
Also speaking, the President of the National Association of Akungba Students, national body, Comrade Oluwaseun Olaoluwa commended Governor Akeredolu for the move.
He said: “We are thankful to Mr governor for that. it is a wonderful step and it will go a long way in affecting the parents and the students as it will bring relief to them”.
