Twelve football teams across the 18 local governments in Ondo State are set to slug it out in the maiden edition of the 2024 Ileya Unity Football competition.

The four days football competition to be sponsored by the Minister of Youth, Mr Olawande Ayodele will kick off between 14th  and 17th of June. 

The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Tolulope Robert and its Secretary, Adeseko Adeniyi, in a chat with newsmen in Akure, the state capital, said the competition was primarily put in place to keep the youth busy during the yuletide holiday. 

Robert added that the competition will also create an avenue for the talented players abound in the state to showcase their gifts. 

He said the competition will be played on knock out format ,just as we have in FA competitions. 

He said: “There is going to be seminar for  representatives of participating clubs tomorrow morning at the Ondo State Sports complex, Akure”.

“It’s another opportunity for club owners and their players to show to the world what they know how best to do’.

“We are assuring the participating teams of fair officiating and we also urge the teams to play according to the rule of the games,” he said.
