Two arraigned over N2,000 notes theft

Two men, Gbenga Omoniyi and Adekunle Aladejuyigbe, were on Thursday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates Court over alleged stealing of N2,000 notes.
The defendants; Omoniyi, 20, and Aladejuyigbe, 25, who are friends and residents in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State are facing two counts charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on February 19, 2023 at about 09:00 a.m in Ado-Ekiti.
Apata alleged that the defendants conspired and stole the sum of N2,000 from one Chinedu Mbachu.
He said on the fateful day, the defendants boarded the complainant’s motorcycle and when they got to a spot at Ojumose area of Ado-Ekiti, they tricked the Okada man and collected N2,000 new naira notes from him.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 302(1) (9) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for a short adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses for proper prosecution.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Femi Ariyo, urged the court to grant them bail, promising that they would not jump bail.
Chief Magistrate Kehinde Awosika, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N10,000 with one surety each in like sum.
She adjourned the case till March 16, for hearing.
